The Demolition and Reconstruction of the historic bridge, adjacent dam and spillway at the outfall of Millhurst Pond into the Manalapan Brook, presented multiple technical and aesthetic challenges. A Radial Concrete Abutment Wall for the Spillway; a Permanent Steel Sheeting Coffer Dam; a Grout Slurry Core Wall; and Precast Concrete Beams and Steel Pilings with Reinforced Concrete Footings were completed in phases while overhead electrical lines were relocated. Water and gas mains were also relocated and suspended from beams under the new bridge. Adhering to strict guidelines set forth by the New Jersey Historical Society, the work included Period-Correct, Full-Size, Natural Stone Veneer of the Bridge Abutment plus Repaving, Widening and Realignment of Sweetman’s Lane to avoid interference with the adjacent 19th century Snyder Grist Mill.
